Since the introduction of the new German Immigration Act, highly qualified people can apply for permanent residence and obtain a work permit in the country. Previously, these individuals only had the right to stay for a period of five years. In order to obtain permanent residence in Germany, foreigners must prove that they have a concrete job offer and must obtain permission from the German Employment Agency.
Family members also have the chance to obtain the right to work in Germany. The country makes considerable efforts to encourage highly qualified people to move to Germany.
