Schaarbeek is a district located in the north of Brussels. The district is home to a number of professional sports clubs, most notably Royal Belgian Cycling Club (cycling), and Royal Belgian Hockey Club (hockey).

History of sports in Schaarbeek

Schaarbeek has a long and proud history of producing top-class athletes. The city has been responsible for producing some of Belgium’s most successful Olympians, including cyclist Johan Museeuw, judoka and four-time Olympic medallist Tessa Vermeiren, and swimmer Kim Vandenberghe.

But Schaarbeek’s sporting heritage isn’t just about producing champions. The city is also home to a number of iconic sporting venues, including the Heysel Stadium – the former home of the Belgian national football team – and the King Baudouin Stadium, which has played host to some of the biggest events in the world of sports.

Today, Schaarbeek is home to a number of top-level sports clubs, including rugby club Stade Francais, and cycling team Quick-Step Floors. These clubs have enjoyed a great deal of success both nationally and internationally, and continue to bring pride to the Schaarbeek community.

In addition to these top-level clubs, Schaarbeek is also home to a number of talented athletes. Some of the most successful athletes from Schaarbeek include cyclist Tom Boonen and basketball player Michaël Gelabale.

Schaarbeek is located in the north of Brussels and is well known for its large park, the Bois de la Cambre. The park is perfect for a morning run or walk, and there are also plenty of sports facilities in Schaarbeek for those who want to get active.

The Sportimonium is a large sports complex in Schaarbeek that has a range of facilities, including a gym, a swimming pool and a tennis court. The complex is open every day, and there are plenty of classes and activities on offer, as well as a crèche for those with children.

If you’re looking for something a little more outdoorsy, the Bois de la Cambre is the perfect place to go. The park has a large lake, which is perfect for a spot of fishing, and there are also plenty of paths for a leisurely walk or a run.
